WHAT WE DO

Higher Education
in Cyprus

CURC offers a forum for promoting the interests of the Cyprus universities, and more specifically, aims to ensure the autonomy of the universities while advocating for the quality of higher education and research.

The objectives of the CURC are:

  1. To formulate and represent the common views of its members, in order to inform higher education national regulations and legislation.
  2. To provide its members with information on pressing matters and developments regarding higher education and research as well as other related matters.
  3. To undertake studies and prepare position papers that can inform strategic decisions, policies and regulations for higher education at the local and EU level.

According to the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sport and Youth, the Cyprus government policy regarding Higher Education aims to address the local needs for Higher Education and establish Cyprus as a Regional Educational and Research Centre, a hub for international scholars and students alike.

The Higher Education System in Cyprus is shaped by the European Higher Education, as outlined by the Bologna Process. Higher Education Institutions in Cyprus consist of Public Universities, Private Universities, Public Institutions of Tertiary Education and Private Institutions of Tertiary Education.

EXPLORING EDUCATION REFORMS

Research and
Innovation

Research is a vital component for each country’s development, as it drives innovation, informs policy, strengthens the economy, and improves public health and education. Through research, nations address important challenges, enhance their global competitiveness, and build a more sustainable and prosperous future for their citizens. Universities are one of the main driving forces.

Universities are one of the driving forces of progress and national development through their research contributions, and they have a central role in the country’s research and innovation ecosystem. This derives from their mission to generate new knowledge, transfer knowledge to the society, train the future generation of experts, and cultivate an innovative mindset.

In Cyprus, research and innovation policy is driven by the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation, and Digital Policy, as well as the Cyprus Research and Innovation Foundation.
